Idaho Student Murders: Latest Updates on the Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The killing of four University of Idaho students in November 2022 struck horror across the whole country. There were steps being taken to ensure justice for the deceased and a month long search ended with a huge turn of events – Bryan Kohberger got arrested. November 13, 2022: The four University of Idaho students – Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle – are found deceased in an off-campus residence.

June 26, 2023: Kohberger’s prosecutors have stated their intentions to press further charges against him that could lead to capital punishment.   

August 3, 2023: Kohberger’s lawyers indicated that he has no alibi concerning the day of the murders. 

December 24, 2023: It was the idea of prosecutors to push the trial into summer 2024 with the primary aim of bettering the chances of not interfering with school activities.   

Current Status:

Kohberger Bryan is still having some issues in his case which goes back to December 2024. All of the pre-trial work is in place, but the arguments and motions from both parties on behalf of and against Kohberger are still ongoing. The jury trial is reported to commence in summer 2024 as per expectations. 


Community Impact:

The killings of the four students were a huge blow to the people of Moscow city and the entire Idaho University community. Explanations as to why the murders occurred have been explored but they have all led to the same conclusion in the sense that nothing makes sense.
