 A devastating incident has shocked New York City as a woman was killed in a horrific arson attack on a subway train. The attack occurred on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on a southbound F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station in Brooklyn. This senseless tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about safety within the city's transit system.   

The Incident:

The victim, who was reportedly asleep on the train, was intentionally set on fire. According to the criminal complaint, the suspect, Sebastian Zapeta, allegedly ignited the woman's clothing and then fanned the flames with his shirt, causing them to engulf her completely. The attack occurred as the train approached the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station, a major transit hub. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but tragically, the woman was pronounced dead.

The Victim:

It has also been reported that Zapeta is an unlawfully present Guatemalan citizen.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
